'Friendly match vs Sewerby report'

Wykeham unfortunately lost the friendly match, but there were some good performances on show

The team - Jon Stephenson (captain), Kev Thompson, Dave Pearson, Steve Day, Chris Almond, Richard Mirfin, Dave Field, Gary Blaymires, Rob Barker, Sam Colling, Phil Hull.

Sam Colling playing well during his innings

The game was played at the Sewerby ground, which all of our players commented was in great condition. The good weather also made it seem a perfect venue. The match was a good opportunity to find out more about our untried team. We agreed to play forty overs each and that Wykeham should bat first due to a couple of players being a little late.

Wykeham made 136 in the first innings with every playing chipping in with a few runs but notably Sam Colling  playing very well, making over thirty. In the Sewerby innings, Wykeham started off with Jon Stephenson and Phil Hull opening up. There was a good effort by Wykeham with all players getting in some fielding practice and all the bowlers given a chance to have a bowl. 'Dazzler' Dave Field's bowling was particularly good and Chris Almond looked as if he might be handy when fully fit. Unfortunately we just didn't have enough runs to ever really threaten Sewerby and they knocked off our total with a few overs to go.

Over all a good effort by our lads with everyone having a go and we wish Sewerby all the best for the season.
